RIP: 26/04/2019 - Tucson
Fr. John Pantuso was born on 20 October 1939, in Brooklyn, New York. He became a Salvatorian in 1960 and was ordained a priest in the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC, on 9 September 1967. In 1968, when the world was in turmoil and the Society in the US was in the midst of a financial crisis, Fr. John asked for a dispensation from vows and from priestly ministry, which was granted. He married Joanne America. They had two sons. John kept always into close contact with the Salvatorians and became a member of the Lay Salvatorians. After the death of his wife in 2002, he soon expressed the wish to return to active ministry. He renewed his vows on 14 August 2004 and on 29 February 2008 Pope Benedict XVI authorized a decree reinstating John to active ministry as a priest. He was mainly involved in pastoral care in parishes and in communication. Fr. John died on 26 April 2019.
