On 1 February 2015, the blessing of Ss. Peter & Paul Church and of a new English medium primary school for the children of the 36 villages of Laitkynsew Parish
has been celebrated in a half-day ceremony which involved more than 2,500 people from the local communities, the bishop, representatives of the authorities and SOFIA’s Head of Projects, delivering speeches and touring the villages in an Eucharistic procession.
The Salvatorians are very much engaged in promoting education and improving the social conditions of the people living in this rather remote area; assisted by SOFIA in terms of planning and fundraising, in addition to the newly constructed school and after having recently restored the 100 year old Parish church they are now completing a community center which will benefit in particular women and marginalized ethnic groups.
