RIP: 22/05/2024 - Medellín
Fr. Germán Osorio Marín was born on 19 February 1934 in San Vicente-Antioquia. After having moved several times, his family came to live in La Estrella in Medellín, where the young Germán met the first Salvatorian, Fr. Feliciano Gossner. At that time he already expressed the desire to enter the Salvatorian seminary, but due to family circumstances it was not possible. He had to wait until the beginning of 1948 to enter the “Colegio Apostólico Divino Salvador” in La Estrella. There he did his high school studies up to the fifth year and then entered the novitiate in 1954. On 2 February 1955, in the Parish of the Divine Saviour, he professed the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience before Father Maurino Rast. He studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Javeriana University. Even before finishing his theology studies, he was ordained priest on 21 June 1963 in Bogotá. At the end of 1964 he returned to Bogotá to finish his fourth year of theology. As soon as he finished his theology he was sent to Cali, then to Cartagena, Bogotá, Bucaramanga, Manizales and Medellín where he helped in different parishes. Fr. Germán, apart from his parish service, used to work as a teacher in the nearby schools. He also held administrative positions in the school of La Estrella in Medellín. After a year’s break for studies in Belgium, he returned to the parish apostolic pastoral field. Internally, he held the positions of superior and treasurer of several communities. In February 2018 he was transferred to live in the community of the elderly confreres, Maurino Rast SDS of La Estrella, to rest. On 22 May 2024, after several months of deteriorating health, he died in the Las Vegas Clinic in the city of Medellín. Fr. Germán was 90 years old and had been a Salvatorian for 69 years.
