HORACIO ADARVE VILLEGAS SDS

Fr. Horacio Adarve Villegas was born on 8 October 1942 in Itagüí, Antioquia, the son of Jesús María Adarve and María del Rosario Villegas. He entered the Society of the Divine Savior in La Estrella, Antioquia, as a postulant on 8 May 1967. He entered the novitiate in Manizales, Caldas, on 25 January 1968. He made his religious vows in the Divine Savior Parish in Bogotá on 25 January 1969, and his final vows in Medellín on 25 January 1971. He studied accounting and nursing in 1972. He was ordained deacon on 14 August 1983 and priest by the laying on of hands by Most Rev. Fabio Betancourt, Auxiliary Bishop of Medellín, in the chapel of the Divino Salvador Seminary of La Estrella, Antioquia on 7 April 1984. In 1992 he took a course in the theology of religious life at the Claretian Institute in Madrid, Spain. He served in the parish offices of Medellín and Bogotá, in the local finance office of Cali, as parochial vicar in Cali and Bello, as master of pre-novices, and as parish priest in Bogotá and Cali. From 2012 until mid-2014 he was parish priest of the Madre del Salvador in Bogotá. From that date he became an assistant priest due to his health. In 2019 he was transferred to the Maurino Rast SDS community. He died on 21 February 2025 in La Estrella at the age of 82, with 56 years of profession and 40 years of priesthood.
