Br. Kilian Harrington was born on 16 March 1928 in Antigo, Wisconsin. In 1949 he entered the Brothers’ candidature program of the Society in St. Nazianz. A year later he began his Novitiate year in Menominee, Michigan, and he made his profession of vows there on 8 September 1951. From that time until 1985, he worked mainly in the area of farming at the Divine Saviour Seminary in Lanham, Maryland, as well as in St. Nazianz, where he also mentored some of the students in the seminary who were part of the school’s ham radio club. In 1985, when the Salvatorians closed the monastery property in St. Nazianz, Bro. Kilian moved to Camphill Village in Sauk Centre, Minnesota, helping to teach organic farming to mentally handicapped adults. Bro. Kilian remained at the Village until 1988, when he was asked to temporarily manage a shelter for the homeless and poor in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He returned to Camphill Village in 1990. He retired from full-time work in 1998, but he continued to live on the Camphill Village campus. In 2005, he joined a group of Salvatorians for a half-month in Cuernavaca, Mexico, learning about how international economic systems can impact the poor and marginalized in less wealthy countries. In 2019, Bro. Kilian moved to Alexian Village in Milwaukee. In November 2022, after experiencing several bouts of weakness and illness, he was admitted to the Health Center for several weeks, where they could more closely monitor his changing health. In January 2023, he was transferred to the Assisted Living section. On the morning of January 22, he drifted away peacefully into the arms of the Saviour, at the age of 95. He had been a Salvatorian for 72 years.
