RIP: 8/04/2024 - Harrow
Fr. Christopher Noel Keane was born on the 19th of June 1935 in Limerick. Having completed his novitiate at Breakspear College, Abbots Langley, he professed his first vows on the feast of Mater Salvatoris, 11 October 1957 and started with his studies of philosophy and theology at Christleton Hall and the White Fathers Institute, Totteridge. Upon priestly ordination on 29 June 1963, he was briefly stationed in Tanzania but had to return due to health issues. Upon returning to the United Kingdom, he taught at (what was then) the SDS junior seminary at Christleton Hall, before going for three years teacher training at Strawberry Hill. Afterwards he returned to Christleton for a further year’s teaching; it was his proud boast that he taught Latin to three students who later went on to become bishops in the United Kingdom. In 1970 he lived in Birkenhead, and was teacher/chaplain at both the local St Hugh’s College and Corpus Christi High School. Five years later, he moved to Connah’s Quay, where he fulfilled a similar role at Richard Gwyn School in Flint for six years. In 1982, he moved to Sallynoggin, Dublin, where he acted as Chaplain to the local Holy Child Community School and the Technical College. A year later, he returned to England and was appointed Parish Priest at St Augustine’s, Castlefields, Runcorn where he served for five years. He then moved to Christ the King parish, Thornbury, near Bristol, where he was Parish Priest from 1993- 99. Following this, he was appointed Novice Master in the Borough, near London Bridge. In 2001, he moved to the community house at Wealdstone, where he did some parish work while living in a semi-retired capacity. He passed away after a short illness at Northwick Park Hospital on 8th April 2024. He was 88 years old and had been a Salvatorian for 66 years.
